Kayla was born in New York City and has been teaching writing in various capacities since receiving her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was an Iowa Arts Fellow. She has taught creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Iowa. Additionally, she has taught critical writing, critical reading, and grammar to high school students. As a college essay consultant, she also works with students to craft compelling personal statements for their college applications. Besides reading and writing, Kayla’s interests include painting, swimming, vegan cooking, and dogs.
