Jimena (she/her) is a teacher, researcher, and writer both in the arts and the sciences. As a highly interdisciplinary educator, Jimena graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard with a double major in Art History and biology. She has conducted extensive research in both subjects: her research on the genetic basis of aneuploidy (referring to events where cells gain or lose chromosomes) culminated in an honors senior thesis. Moreover, she has written extensively on modern and contemporary art, researching themes such as textile art and its relationship to social change, representations of multiracial and multiethnic identity, and connections between Pre-Columbian art from Latin America and modern artists. Jimena is passionate about writing—whether it’s about art or science—in a way that is accessible, exciting, and thought-provoking, with the goal of helping readers better understand themselves and the world around them.
Jimena has many years of experience teaching and creating lesson plans for students from a wide range of grade levels—from young learners all the way to advanced college-level students! She brings a unique strength in English-language instruction, combining her fluency in Spanish, and French with a deep sensitivity to the nuances of communication. All these have gifted her a profound understanding of the beauty of language, and the possibilities for precise communication, deeper empathy, and development of new ideas it unlocks for students.
Beyond her academic and teaching work, Jimena loves dancing (and choreographing), reading, and exploring the food scene wherever she goes!
