  • B.A in Economics
Semane Reddy-Mbewu is an educator and a researcher with experience teaching students from grades 4 through 12 in English, mathematics, and debate. She studied economics at Harvard University, where she developed a practice of applying tools from economics and finance to challenges in economic development.
She is passionate about using literature as a lens through which to understand herself and the world more broadly. An international debater, Semane learned the power of words early on: not only as tools of persuasion, but as instruments for cultivating critical thinking, empathy, and imagination.
Her teaching is exploratory and discussion-based, challenging students to think deeply within a supportive, non-judgemental environment that builds confidence and intellectual curiosity. Drawing on her own experience with a consistent reading practice, she enjoys helping students develop confidence and curiosity in their engagement with the English language.
While she enjoys the world-building and political intrigue of high fantasy, she continually returns to the classics. Her favourite works include Crime and Punishment, Hamlet, and Jane Eyre.
